It offers park-goers an opportunity to experience nature in a unique, primitive setting, and also has guided kayak trips, camping, interpretive programs, hiking and biking trails, and 6 miles of pristine Atlantic Ocean beach.
Dogs are allowed in the park, but not in the refuge, except during October. Dogs may enter by boat or by beach trail from November 1st to March 31st; from April-September dogs can only come by boat. Dogs must always be leashed |

First Landing State Park- video Located where English colonists first landed in 1607, this park is a National Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is Virginia's most visited state park and is an oasis within urban Virginia Beach, with 20 miles of trails and 1.5 miles of sandy Chesapeake Bay beach frontage. There are bald cypress swamps, lagoons and maritime forests, and rare plants and wildlife. Enjoy cabins and campsites, picnic areas, boat ramps, bike rentals, and historical and educational exhibits. Dogs are allowed throughout the park and on the park beach, and this park has no fee for day use, but a $3/night/pet fee for overnight campers.
